Full of character and charm, this superb French Chateau is ideally situated in a quiet setting on the borders of Touraine, Berry and Sologne, just 35km from Tours and Blois.
The main body of the house, tower and the postern date back to the Thirteenth Century, the latter of which once guarded the property by means of a drawbridge. The Renaissance elevation of this postern, in imitation of Amboise, is now listed as an ISMH monument. In around 1830, the 2 wings and the top floor of the manor were added.
From a small external parking area, one passes through the imposing postern to discover the elegance of the west facade, which is flanked by 2 turrets. At the foot of the south facade, there is a pretty flower bed and a swimming pool.
The tithing tower closes the enclosure to the north-west, then to the north and east a triple garage and a very large underground cellar . 2 bread ovens, a well that can be operated from the inside (with remnants of seats), and various animal shelters are dug into the base of the building.
The south-western tower welcomes the visitor with a superb renaissance-style structure sculpted in tufa. It leads to the different levels via a stone spiral staircase. The entire rear of the manor house leads, depending on the level, to terraces, cellars and troglodyte underground passages, the exit of which can be traced to Montrichard.
On the first floor there is a beautiful entrance hall opening into a 33m2 reception room with double exposure and chequered floor tiles. A large kitchen features a restored bread oven. It once housed a chapel whose arches can be seen beyond the false ceiling. Its south-facing terrace overlooks the swimming pool, ideal for sunny entertaining and child supervision. The dining room to the west is nicely decorated including ‘trompe l’oeil’ panoramas of the Rhone. There is also a 30m2 double-exposure guest bedroom with its turret bathroom .
On the second floor, an anteroom leads southwards to a study with parquet flooring of the same dimensions as the living room below, and 2 vast bedrooms with parquet flooring, each with its own bathroom, which offer a remarkable view to the west over the dimiere tower, the river and the trees in the parkland.
The top floor, of approximately 70m2, is less up to date. It consists of an entrance hall, 2 bedrooms and a living room with a kitchen in the north-west turret. It can be accessed independently via the terrace on the hillside.
A vast attic of the same dimensions, ready to be converted, overlooks the whole.
The living space of the manor house is 170m2 on the first two floors and 70m2 on the top floor, totalling approximately 410m2.
The entrance postern has been recently converted for seasonal or year-round rentals. It is a duplex of 62m2, divided into 2 vast rooms with tiled floors and fireplaces, with a kitchen and shower room in the small tower. The tower could accommodate a small guest house or artist’s studio on its 2 levels.
A pleasant brick outbuilding of approximately 15m2 is found by the kitchen terrace.
The land of 8 acres (3 hectares) is divided between parkland and woodland, including beautiful cedars.
